Secretary to the School of Nursing

The Secretary to the School of Nursing (SON) supports the SON chair, faculty, and students of the Lee University community by following the essential duties and responsibilities, as outlined below:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acts as receptionist for the School of Nursing
  • Maintains a central filing system for SON
  • Assists the administrative and other faculty with daily operations 
  • Assists with preparing semester class schedules
  • Compiles information for faculty workload profiles and reports
  • Supervises and trains student workers
  • Works with Dean’s assistant to manage department budgets, vouchers, transfers and purchase orders
  • Tracks office and instructional supplies
  • Reports maintenance and custodial needs for the School
  • Assists with maintaining information in faculty files as requested
  • Prepares part-time faculty contracts as requested
  • Maintains master syllabi for Nursing Program
  • Establishes long and short term goals for self
  • Administers faculty/student course evaluations
  • Coordinates events, travel and meetings for chair and other faculty as requested
  • Assists with orientation for all new full and part-time faculty members
  • Responsible to keep part time faculty informed of all SON activities
  • Demonstrates ethical, moral and professional behavior in the office environment
  • Exhibits a positive and flexible attitude and responds positively to constructive criticism, guidance and suggestions for improvement regarding performance
  • Communicates effectively and establishes appropriate relationships with co-workers
  • Manages tasks promptly, prioritizes responsibilities and meets deadlines
  • Maintains confidentiality with faculty and student records according to FERPA requirements
  • Responds to faculty needs in a timely and professional manner
  • Handles interruptions calmly and professionally
  • Works independently and efficiently within established protocols
  • Keeps accurate records, composes timely reports and ensures reliability and completeness of information
  • Performs related duties as assigned

 

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Five years of experience in an administrative office, preferably in an academic setting, including customer service experience. Associate of Science degree in business administration or certification in office administration preferred. Must be familiar with database management systems, including reporting; and proficient with web-based, mobile, and PC applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office. A high degree of proficiency is required in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
The hiring salary for this position is commensurate with education and experience. This is a regular, full-time, non-exempt position. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance benefits, contributory retirement plan (403b).
