Part-time Coordinator for Internships, Career Services, and Study Abroad

The Coordinator will support the Menlo College Office of Internships, Career Services, and Study Abroad, which is housed within the Center for Academic & Professional Success at Menlo College. The Coordinator will support the day-to-day operations of the office as well as play a key role in long-term initiatives.

Responsibilities

The Career Services & Study Abroad Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Serving as a ‘front desk’ resource for drop-in students and for referring students to the appropriate resources and/or staff members to ensure they get the help they need, as quickly as possible
  • Planning, coordinating, participating in, and/or leading recruiting, informational, and educational events in collaboration with on-campus faculty and staff as well as external parties such as employers, invited experts, and study abroad partners
  • Creating and sending weekly newsletters targeted to specific student populations
  • Researching internship, career and study abroad resources and updating website content
  • Becoming knowledgeable in the career services system (Handshake presently) to serve as a resource to handle questions related to the system from students and employers
  • Reviewing, deciding on, and referring as needed, incoming new employer requests and new position posting requests in Handshake
  • Collecting and analyzing program-related metrics and creating reports
  • Recruiting and coordinating employer volunteers to conduct mock interviews with students as part of their professional preparation
  • Completing other projects and duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years professional experience post-graduation from most recent educational pursuit
  • Experience in a fast-moving work environment requiring handling of multiple, highly-varied tasks, simultaneously and smoothly
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing circumstances and priorities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to coordinate and track multiple projects simultaneously
  • Comfort with serving as a front-line technical resource for a specific software platform – not true IT, but comfort with becoming familiar with the system and solving ‘quick problems’, and escalating complex or unique cases as appropriate
  • Comfortable serving as a role model for students in professional behavior and demeanor
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and employers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and/or 2-3 years of work experience in field related to position responsibilities (higher education, college student personnel, human resources, recruiting, marketing, counseling, management, business, or related fields)
  • Experience with student advising in a higher education setting
  • Knowledge of Bay Area for-profit and nonprofit organizations
  • Knowledge of study abroad programs in a higher education setting
  • Experience with providing feedback on resumes, cover letters, and interview
  • Proficiency with Handshake (career services platform)

Work Schedule / Reporting Relationship

This position is a part-time, 25-30 hours/week, exempt, 12-month position with a flexible schedule. A regular work schedule will be set in advance, but there is some flexibility about how the 25-30 hours/week will be allocated. Flexible start date, but ideally early December. The Office Coordinator will report to the Director of Internships, Career Services, and Study Abroad.
